Republic of Finland
Honorary Consul of Finland
Paul Hirst
Paul Hirst serves as the Honorary Consul of Finland in Utah, appointed by the Republic of Finland on January 28, 2025. His deep connection to Finland begins with his family heritage—his mother was a professional singer from Oulu, Finland before immigrating to the United States. Growing up in a Finnish-American household, Mr. Hirst learned Finnish at home, and his father's missionary service in Finland further strengthened the family's ties to the country. He maintains active relationships with his extended family in Finland to this day.
The family's commitment to Finnish culture extended into business through their import store in Olympus Hills that specialized in Finnish furniture and products, providing him early exposure to Finnish design and commerce. Mr. Hirst's own connection to Finland deepened during his two-year service as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland, where he enhanced his Finnish language fluency.
With over three decades of experience in architecture, Mr. Hirst brings a wealth of professional expertise to his role. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University and a Master of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. As the owner of Hirst Design, he leads an architectural practice specializing in commercial, industrial, multi-family, and bespoke residential projects.
His international perspective has been shaped by living in various locations including Finland, Missouri, Minnesota, and the United Kingdom. During his time in the UK, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Saudi Arabia, broadening his global understanding. Now based in Utah, he continues to bring this international outlook to his work and community engagement. He maintains active involvement in the business community while fostering connections between Finland and Utah.
Licensed as an architect for more than 20 years, Mr. Hirst combines his professional acumen with his cultural understanding to serve as a bridge between Finnish and Utah communities.
