Campbell Kato is an incoming student at Westminster University, where she will join the Honors College and play for their Women’s golf team. She plans to major in Political Science on a pre-law track, with aspirations of attending law school and specializing in international law. Campbell is deeply passionate about the United States cultural diversity and believes all groups must be represented and respected. As a Japanese American, her heritage has played a vital role in shaping her desire to advocate for cultural inclusion and give voice to underrepresented groups in Utah. This passion has driven her to seek leadership positions where she can make a tangible impact on her community, particularly in diplomacy and cultural exchange.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Campbell’s leadership and extracurricular involvement reflect her dedication to bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding. As an intern for the Honorary Consul of Japan in Utah, she collaborates with government officials and dignitaries to help revitalize Japantown in Salt Lake City. She is also a co-leader for the Nihon Matsuri (Japan Festival), one of Utah’s largest Japanese cultural events, where she plays a key role in strengthening cultural ties. Furthermore, as a student ambassador for Project Hope 4 Kids, Campbell uses her language skills in both Spanish and Japanese to provide tutoring and support to refugee and immigrant students, empowering them to succeed in their new communities. Through these experiences, Campbell has realized the power of language to break down barriers and build connections. She is driven to use her education and experiences to pursue a career in international law, where she hopes to advocate for global cooperation and a more inclusive, respectful world.
